AT THE FOUNTAIN OF SHADOV

At the fountain,

Of that ethereal shadow,

There lies the heavy,

Of the universe:

We are human light,

In the thunderbolt of blood,

Spastic movements of pawns,

In the dismal suffering,

If this '' humanism,''

For we can never know,

The age of the soul ,

Ours, or anybody's.

And time seconds us

In space that polishes us,

Shavings of illusions.

I shall not escape my punishment:

Well do I know,

The mine of the blade ,

And I shall struggle to live,

Where all is ruination.

Poems by Maria Teresa Liuzzo (Italy) translated into English by Peter Russell

- Nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

SYMBOL

A symbol,

Death is,

Of nothingness,

And beyond,

It generates atoms,

Of utopia,

In the macabre hothouse,

Of breathing.

Whispers,

Are celestial shocks:

They celebrate,

The fascination of the unknown,

Amongst marginal spikes,

If dead dawns.

The short cuts,

I have lost,

Of ''universal'' sense,

To reach you,

O soul,

To give back to the mould,

Its last fragment,

Of extreme nothingness.
